Before the German, Swiss, and Austrian immigrants, the English were the first settlers in the valley. Winegrowing followed in the coming years in the Barossa Valley. Today, almost 60% of Australian wine is produced in the Barossa Valley. This is not surprising, as the total vineyard area is 10,000 hectares in the Australian state of South Australia, making it the most famous wine region.
